BEHREND MEN'S SOCCER ADVANCES IN ECAC TOURNAMENT

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team advanced in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) following a thrilling 2-1 win over Misericordia on Saturday.

Behrend's Tyler Vandemerwe sent four shots on goal in the span of two minutes to eventually open the scoring in the 19th minute with James Lynch being credited with an assist. Behrend didn't have many more chances in the first half but goalkeeper Sam York stood tall making four saves through the first frame. In the 69th minute, Misericordia evened things up with a goal from Francisco Echeverria. Moments after the game-tying goal, the Cougars received a penalty kick that was denied by York to keep the game tied 1-1. Seven minutes later Matthew Romesberg Jr. found the back of the goal to take the lead 2-1 in 76th minute. With two minutes remaining, York would make another huge save to help the Lions close out the victory and advance in the ECAC Tournament. York finished the day with eight saves.

Behrend will now advance to the ECAC Semifinals on Sunday when they take on Rutgers-Newark at 12 p.m.
