SCHWARZEL, DEVLIN NAMED COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS

On Tuesday, the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) announced the 2019 Division III Academic All-America® Soccer Teams. Penn State Behrend men's soccer senior Nick Schwarzel and Mount Aloysius College senior Joshua Devlin have each earned the prestigious recognition. The pair advanced to the All-America ballot after being named to the CoSIDA All-District 4 Team earlier this season.

Schwarzel and Devlin are among 33 Division III student-athletes who earned the honor, while Schwarzel is among 11 players selected to the Academic All-American first team. Devlin earned second team honors.

Schwarzel is majoring in interdisciplinary business with engineering studies and supply chain management. He has a 3.94 GPA over his first three years at Behrend. Schwarzel is a three-time Academic All-AMCC honoree and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma honor society. He is also three-time All-AMCC selection, earning first-team honors in 2017 and landing on the second team two years in a row. Schwarzel started every game, scoring eight goals and dishing out one assist on the season. The senior captain netted three game winning goals on the season, all of which came against AMCC opponents. Schwarzel also led the team and the AMCC with a 5-for-7 showing on penalty kicks. His contributions on both sides of the ball guided Penn State Behrend to a 19-2 record.

Devlin is currently finishing his final semester at Mount Aloysius. The Pre-Law major holds a cumulative 3.80 GPA. The Southend-on-Sea, England native capped off a great career for the Mounties in 2019. He set single-season and program records for goals scored, as he scored 18 goals on the season, giving him 42 for his career. His 18 goals in 17 games ranked him third nationally in goals scored per game, as well. Devlin will also leave Mount Aloysius as the career leader in total points and second in career assists. Devlin’s record-setting year saw him earn first team all-AMCC honors, for the second consecutive year. He was also a second team choice in 2017. In 2018, he was a first team All-Great Lakes Region pick, as well. Devlin has been a Dean’s List student during his time as a Mountie. In addition, he has been an AMCC Peak Performer award winner and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma.
