  • BEHREND MEN'S SOCCER NAMED NCAA STATISTICAL CHAMPION
    March 24, 2020
    The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team was honored by the NCAA for being the 2019-20 Division III Statistical Champion for winning percentage. The Lions finished with a 19-2 overall mark, setting a new school record for wins in a season. Behrend won its 10th AMCC Championship and made its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance. The Lions began the season by winning the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament and proceeded to post a 10-0 record at home. Behrend was nationally ranked from start of the season to the finish, reaching a program-best 10th ranking. The Lions were the final unbeaten and untied team in the nation with 11 straight wins to begin the 2019 season.

  • HUTCHINSON NAMED MT. ALOYSIUS HEAD MEN'S & WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH

    On Monday, Laurence Hutchinson was named the Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach at Mount Aloysius College. Hutchinson was the Associate Head Soccer Coach for the Men’s and Women’s programs during the 2018 season. During 2018, he helped the Men’s program to 15 wins and an appearance in the AMCC semi-finals. The Women’s program won, a record, 14 games and made their first-ever appearance in the AMCC Championship Game. He was also part of the coaching staff from 2016-17, as a Graduate Assistant with the Men’s team. Hutchinson was part of 26 wins during that period, including a program-record, 16 wins in 2017. Both years, the program made an appearance in the AMCC Tournament. Hutchinson played college soccer at Tennessee Wesleyan, prior to joining the staff at Mount Aloysius. He earned All-Conference honors while at Tennessee Wesleyan and helped them to an NAIA Tournament appearance. He is a 2016 graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan, with a degree in Exercise Science. He earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Mount Aloysius in 2018. Hutchinson is a native of Middlesborough, England. In addition, Interim Head Coach Adam Sprague has been elevated to Co-Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach. After a successful season on the sidelines that saw the teams win a combined 27 games, Sprague will be back in 2020. Hutchinson and Sprague will share coaching duties, as well as recruiting and day-to-day operations. Sprague will also step into the Athletics Compliance Coordinator position at Mount Aloysius, in addition to his coaching responsibilities.

    Warnaka made a career-high eight saves over 90 minutes to help the Lions defeat Medaille in the AMCC Championship game. He registered 11 saves during the AMCC Tournament and recorded a pair of wins for a 0.50 goals-against average.
  • Richard Blanchard, Penn State Behrend, Men's Soccer - Offensive

    Blanchard registered three goals and one assist for seven points in the AMCC Tournament this week. He tallied both game-winning goals to help the Lions claim their 10th AMCC Championship. Blanchard netted two goals and handed out one assist in the semifinals, before burying a penalty kick late in the second half in the AMCC title game for the win.

    Eyre earned two wins to help get the Mounties to advance in the AMCC Tournament. His first win was a shutout against Franciscan, where he registered four saves to clinch the number three spot in the conference tournament. Then on Saturday, he limited Pitt-Bradford to one goal in the playoff victory.

    Napier came up big for the Mavericks, scoring the game-winning goal in the dying minutes of the second half against Pitt-Bradford. The win clinched the Mavs as the #1 seed for the AMCC Tournament with Napier being the hero.

The Barons are currently in third place in league standings, while the Mounties are holding down the fourth spot.
  • Austin Gorman, La Roche University, Men's Soccer - Defensive

    Gorman went 2-0 this week playing all 180 minutes in two pivotal wins for La Roche against Penn St. Altoona (10/23) & Pitt Bradford (10/26). In those performances, Gorman finished with eight saves and only allowed two goals, while also picking up a shutout. With their backs against the wall, Gorman and the Redhawks have won back-to-back games for the first time all season, clinching a spot in the conference postseason for the 13th year in a row.

    Devlin had an explosive offensive week as he tallied five goals, for 10 total points, on only nine shots. He recorded two goals against Alfred State with one being a game-winning goal. Devlin also sdded a hat-trick against Pitt-Greensburg, on Wednesday.

    Irwin scored three goals and added two assists in 110 minutes played this past week. He led the Barons to a 2-0 week in conference play.
