LA ROCHE MEN TRAVEL TO WITTENBERG FOR NCAA TOURNAMENTMarch 02, 2020The La Roche University (21-6, 19-1) men's basketball team claimed their fourth AMCC championship on Saturday afternoon, punching their ticket to the NCAA national tournament with the conference's automatic bid.

Darius Lawrence, La Roche University, Men's BasketballMarch 02, 2020Lawrence put on some his best performances of the year in the conference postseason to lead La Roche to their fourth AMCC championship victory. Against no. 4 seed Penn St. Altoona in the semi-final, Lawrence scored a career-high 21 points while shooting 7 of 13 (54%) from the field and perfect 6 of 6 at the free throw line. He added six rebounds, three assists and three steals. The next day in the title game versus Penn St. Behrend, Lawrence hit two free throws with 35 seconds remaining to give the Redhawks the lead as they would go on to win 62-61. Darius finished with a team-high 15 points while shooting 5 of 9 (56%) from the field and a perfect 4 of 4 at the free throw line. He also added four rebounds, three assists and a block. In the AMCC playoffs, Lawrence averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 54.5% (12-22) from the field and a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line. He was named to the AMCC All-Conference Tournament Team.

Cameron Gardner-Nicholson, Penn State Altoona, Men's BasketballFebruary 24, 2020Gardner-Nicholson had a dominant week in the paint for the Lions in three AMCC games. In Monday's double-overtime loss to Franciscan, he recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds while also blocking seven shots, tying for the second-most blocks in a game in team history. In Wednesday night's loss at Mount Aloysius, Gardner-Nicholson scored a team-high 13 points to go along with four rebounds. In Saturday's big win over Hilbert on his Senior Day, he put up a season-high 26 points and also tied his season-high with 19 rebounds, tying for the third-most rebounds in a game in program history. He also contributed six blocks to tie for the fourth-most blocks in a game in Lions history. On the week, Gardner-Nicholson averaged 19.0 points per game, 12.3 rebounds per game, 4.3 blocks per game, and 1.0 steal per game. He also shot an impressive 75.0% from the field.

Tyler Frederick, La Roche University, Men's BasketballFebruary 17, 2020Frederick helped the Redhawks go 2-0 on the week and secure the number one seed in the AMCC championship tournament for the third year in a row. In an 82-75 victory against Franciscan on Wednesday, Frederick put up big numbers with 28 points and tied his career-high with 19 rebounds, picking up his conference-leading 14th double-double of the season (T-8th in D-III). Later in the week, Frederick led the Redhawks to a comeback win at Hilbert College with a team-high 19 points and contributed four rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block. On the week, Frederick averaged 23.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 70% (16-23) from the floor, 55.6% (5-9) from deep and a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line.

Hunter Martineau, Hilbert College, Men's BasketballFebruary 10, 2020Martineau led the Hawks to a 2-0 week and back into fourth place in the AMCC title race. In Wednesday night's 86-72 win at D'Youville College - the 5'10 PG scored 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting, and registered 8 assists and 5 steals. The conference's current assist leader was dominant in a 70-68 redemption victory over Mount Aloysius College on Saturday. Martineau poured in 14 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished for 10 assists to earn his second triple-double of the 2019-20 season. Martineau is just the third player nationally to register two or more this season.

Jack Kusters, Penn State Altoona, Men's BasketballFebruary 03, 2020Kusters had an outstanding week for the Lions, who went 2-0 with a pair of big AMCC wins. In Wednesday night's road win at AMCC opponent Franciscan, Kusters tied his career-high with 27 points to go along with six rebounds, five assists, and one steal. He went an impressive 10-for-14 from the field in the game, including going 7-for-8 from three-point range. His three-point percentage of 87.5 percent set a new Penn State Altoona men's basketball single game record, and his total of seven made threes is tied for the fifth-most three-pointers made in a single game in team history. In Saturday's victory at home over AMCC foe Medaille, Kusters tied for the team-high in points with 19 while adding seven rebounds, a team-leading four assists, and one steal. On the week, he averaged 23.0 points per game while shooting 53.1 percent from the field overall and 60.0 percent from three-point range. He also grabbed 6.5 rebounds per game, dished out 4.5 assists per game, and averaged 1.0 steal per game.

Jonathan Smith, Medaille College, Men's BasketballJanuary 27, 2020Smith continued his strong play for the Mavs this past week. He once again averaged a double-double over a two game stretch, while also grabbing his 667th rebound as a Mav, putting him in first place all-time rebounding in Medaille men's basketball history. In the school's pivotal win over Hilbert, Smith had 26 points and completed the double-double with a massive 16 rebounds. As the team traveled down to La Roche, Smith did not skip a beat, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds against the Redhawks. For the week, Smith averaged 24.0 points and 13.5 rebounds.

Devon Darrell, D'Youville College, Men's BasketballJanuary 21, 2020Darrell had an incredible week for the Spartans, helping lead them to three consecutive wins. Darrell had a big game on Saturday against Franciscan, as he scored a then career-high 22 points on 63.6% shooting from the field with five rebounds and five assists in the 94-87 win. He followed that up with a career game with a new career-high 24 points, tied a career-high with 14 assists, and eight rebounds with three steals and two blocks. Darrell went 10-for-14 from the field and 3-for-3 from three, as he was the driving force behind the team's win. For the week, Darrell averaged 17.3 points, 8.3 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in three games.
