LA ROCHE CLAIMS BACK-TO-BACK AMCC BASEBALL TITLES

After being forced to play a second game on Sunday to determine the champion, La Roche College has claimed back-to-back AMCC baseball titles.

Penn State Behrend 11, La Roche 6

The Lions belted 16 hits in game one scoring in every inning from the fourth on. La Roche took an early 4-0 lead in the second inning, but after runs in the fourth and fifth, Behrend plated five in the sixth to take the lead.

Lion junior John Hlavinka and sophomore Brian Bohman  went 4-for-6 with two RBI's and a run scored. Bohman ripped a two-run homerun in the top of the eighth inning to boost the Lions to a 10-6 advantage.

Junior Alex Margraf had two hits including a two-RBI double in the sixth while freshman Hunter Hux added two hits and a pair of RBI's.

Freshman Brandon Smail lifted the Lions with 4.1 innings of relief in which he allowed just one run, earning the win for his effort.

La Roche was led by senior John Watson and junior Colin Williamson who had three RBIs a piece, including a Williamson homerun.

La Roche 22, Penn State Behrend 2

The Lion victory forced a second championship game in which the winner was crowned AMCC Champions. La Roche pushed across three runs in the first inning and two more in the third to grab an early 5-0 lead.

A six-run fourth, five-run fifth and three-run sixth propelled the Redhawks to a commanding 19-run lead. The Lions put up two runs in the eights inning, but the Redhawk lead was too much to overcome.

La Roche sophomore Luis Navedo was 5-6, scoring five runs and collecting three RBIs. Senior Colin Feikles was 4-4, with five runs scored and four RBIs.

Redhawk senior Walt Hadjuk pitched the complete game and picked up the victory.

La Roche moves on to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament Regional and their third in the past four seasons. The national championship will be hosted by Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, May 22-26.
