BEHREND AND LA ROCHE VICTORIOUS ON DAY ONE OF CHAMPIONSHIPS

After day one of the championship round of the AMCC baseball tournament, #1 La Roche and #2 Penn State Behrend are the only remaining unbeaten teams. Below is a recap of Friday afternoon's games.

#2 Penn State Behrend 11, #3 Mt. Aloysius 0

The Penn State Behrend baseball team rolled to an 11-0 victory over Mt. Aloysius in the quarterfinal round of the AMCC Tournament. The Lions jumped out to an early lead pushing across three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Junior Matt Wolczko doubled down the right field line with the bases loaded to bring in the game's first two runs and Tommy Kocur followed with an RBI groundout. Behrend scored again in the sixth when junior Ryan Finnegan singled to left field bringing in two runs, giving the Lions a 5-0 lead. Behrend would score two more in the seventh and four in the eighth to take control of the game. Senior Tylor Williams tossed a complete game shutout allowing only three hits to go along with five strikeouts.

#1 La Roche 10, #4 Pitt-Greensburg 8

Senior Cory Podvasnik hit a clutch three-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Redhawks overcame a four run deficit to beat Pitt-Greensburg 10-8. La Roche left the bases loaded in the first inning but struck first thanks to a Podvasnik RBI double over the third base bag. Regis Sauers did not allow a hit through the first three innings but Pitt-Greensburg used a two-run double in the fourth to go up 2-1. La Roche answered in the bottom half of the inning when John Watson smacked a three-run bomb over the left field wall. The Bobcats regained the lead with four runs in the fifth and another two in the sixth. A sixth inning RBI triple by junior Colin Williamson and senior Colin Feikles' RBI single up the middle cut the deficit to just one run. Then in the eighth inning, Podvasnik left the yard with his clutch three-run homer to give La Roche the 10-8 lead.
