TWO MORE PITT-BRADFORD PLAYERS SIGN SUMMER LEAGUE CONTRACTS

The Pitt-Bradford baseball team had two more players, rising senior Kody Johnston and rising junior Zach Bican, sign summer league contracts for 2014.

Johnston, who spent the 2014 season behind the plate, has already reported to the Waynesboro Generals in Waynesboro, Va. The Generals are a member of the Valley League, a highly competitive collegiate summer baseball league.  He joins teammate Joe Chittester, who recently signed with the New Market Rebels, in the Valley League this summer.

Johnston started behind the plate in all 34 of his appearances this season for the Panthers. He was third on the team with a .302 average, going 32-for-106 at the plate. He scored 22 runs, tallied 11 doubles and cracked one home run. His .434 slugging percentage was good for second on the squad.  He finished with a .988 fielding percentage and was responsible for 13 assists and 157 putouts.

Bican, in his sophomore campaign, became a regular in the starting rotation on the mound for the Panthers. He is headed to Elmira, N.Y., to join the Elmira Pioneers of the Perfect Game College Baseball League.  Bican wrapped up 2014 with a 4.81 ERA and a 4-1 record on the hill. He made seven appearances and six starts during the season. He tossed 33.2 innings of ball and allowed 25 runs, 18 earned, on 36 hits. He fanned a total of 24 at the plate.

With the departure of seniors Greg Taylor and Derek Meyer, Bican joins rising senior Aaron Cressley as just one of two players returning in the starting rotation.
