Men's Basketball Falls in First AMCC Game

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Pitt-Greensburg won the battle of the unbeaten AMCC teams this afternoon by earning an 82-62 victory over the Hilbert College Hawks in men's basketball.

THE BASICS
        AMCC Game of the Week
  • Final Score:  Pitt-Greensburg 82 | Hilbert 62
  • Location:   Hafner Recreation Center, Hamburg, NY
  • Records: Hilbert 8-2 (4-1 AMCC) | Greensburg 7-1 (5-0 AMCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pitt.-Greensburg's height and interior defense created problems for Hilbert from the get-go.
  • After putting two points on the board in the first minute, Hilbert found themselves in the hole the remainder of the game.
  • The Bobcats sank their first of seven 3-pointers at 19:10 and that lop-sided hit created enough space to hold their advantage on the scoreboard the rest of the first half.
  • The Hawks traded bucket-for-bucket and kept it a two-possession game until Jacob Braniecki drilled a deep shot which sliced the margin to one (12-13) at 13:31.
  • Four minutes later, Greensburg stretched their lead to double digits (25-15) and continued to roll on the scoreboard by as many as 19 points before intermission.
  • Things did not improve for Hilbert in the second half as the taller and stronger Bobcats rotated a 6-7 and a 7-0 big man in the paint.  They altered the Hawks shots and controlled the glass on defense while serving as a point-passer, finding open teammates on the perimeter.
  • Greensburg built their largest lead 27 points twice late in the game before Hilbert trimmed the difference to 20 by the final horn.
GAME NOTES
  • Hunter Martineau led the Hawks with 17 points (9-of-10 at the foul line), shared team-high rebounding honors with Jacob Braniecki (six each), was credited with four assists and three steals.
  • Masia Phillips battled foul trouble and added 14 points (6-of-10 from the field) in only 17 minutes.
  • Jon Evans chipped in 12 points (5-of-6) and three offensive rebounds.
  • Greensburg controlled the glass, out rebounding the Hawks 55-36 with a 12-3 advantage on the offensive end of the floor in the second half.  They were credited with five blocked shots, but altered the flight and timing of several more Hilbert attempts.
  • The Hawks connected on 23-of-65 shots (35.4 percent) hitting only 14-of-21 at the charity stripe.
  • Cam Seigfreid's 21 points (4-of-8 deep) and 11 rebounds led Greensburg who remained unbeaten in AMCC action (5-0).
