Women's Basketball Suffers Worst Shooting Slump of Season

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's basketball team couldn't buy a basket tonight as they dropped their AMCC opener to cross-town rival D'Youville College in Buffalo Cup play.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  D'Youville 60 | Hilbert 47
  • Location:   Hafner Recreation Center, Hamburg, NY
  • Records: Hilbert 2-3 (0-1 AMCC) | D'Youville 3-2 (1-0 AMCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It took Hilbert 6.5 minutes of action to score their first basket and their three other points were delivered from the charity stripe as the Spartans built an eight-point margin by the start of the second session.
  • Hilbert and D'Youville reversed their offensive output with the Hawks connecting for 13 points while holding the Spartans to seven in the second quarter.
  • After Hilbert hit only 13.8% (4-29 from the floor and 0-7 beyond the arc) and trailed by only two points (20-18) at half time, hopes were high for the Hawks after intermission.
  • D'Youville stretched their advantage to as many as 16 points (40-24) before Emily Gawlak drained back-to-back 3-point shots slicing the margin to 12 points by the end of the third quarter.
  • Only once in the fourth quarter did the white and royal skim the difference down to single digits, but fouls and continued missed shots plagued the Hawks as the suffered the loss.
  • Hilbert closed the game hitting only 21.6 percent from the floor, sank 5-of-21 from deep and made 20 (of 28) free throws while the Spartans performed better hitting 37 percent from the floor which made all the difference in the world.
  • Both teams finished with 40 rebounds, turned the ball over and were credited with similar amounts of steals.
  • Emily Gawlak led the Hawks with 17 points, Taylor Corts earned team-high 10 rebounds and Emma Fredo led with two assists.  Macy Kisner came off the bench and lifted Hilbert with eight rebounds, four on the offensive end.
  • D'Youville's point guard, Danielle Hore, was close to posting a triple double scoring 16 points (10-of-12 at the foul line), dishing for nine assists and leading the Spartans with eight rebounds.
