Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Opens AMCC Action With Identical Defeats

ERIE, Pa. - Penn State Behrend took everything from Hilbert baseball today.

The Lions hosted the Hawks 'home' game, then batted in a pair of 12-0  Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victories.

In Game One, Behrend manufactured runs in all seven innings and strung together scores in five of the nine in the night cap win.

Griffith DeMayo went 2 for 6 and freshman Brian Hutchinson earned his first career double.

GAME ONE

Ian Moran and Griffith DeMayo were credited with the two Hilbert hits as Behrend's ace pitcher limited the Hawks at the plate.

DeMayo's single to center field in the bottom of the 4th broke the string of three batters per inning for HIlbert.  Moran followed with a single up the middle in the 5th, but that was all the contact the Hawks made during the game.

In 3.1 innings, Frank Propis (0-3) walked four, struck one out and finished with six earned runs.  Both Anthony DiNizo (1.2 IP) and Chad Nelson (2.0 IP) saw time on the hump.

GAME TWO

Behrend continued to make contact throughout the night cap having poked 17 hits, all singles except for a three.

Five different Hilbert players finished with one hit each as Brian Hutchinson collected Hilbert's only double on the day.

Austin O'Shei and Tristan Aldinger each earned a hit in the bottom of the 2nd but it wasn't until the bottom of the 4th where the Hawks had two base runners on at the same time -  DeMayo was hit by pitch and Noah Welch walked.  Behrend got out of trouble with a double play to preserve the 6-0 lead by the top of the 5th.

Zachary Crane, 12 hits, seven earned runs, three walks, struck two out in 6.0 innings.

Hilbert (2-12, 0-2 AMCC) returns to action this weekend when they host Penn State Altoona on the turf at Houghton College March 30.
