Baseball Falls Twice to Mt. Aloysius 6-5 and 5-1

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Framingham State University baseball team opened their action at the Ripken experience this evening and were defeated 6-5 and 5-1 by Mt. Aloysius in non-conference doubleheader action this evening at Griffith Field. 

THE BASICS: 

- Scores: Mt. Aloysius 6, Framingham State 5 – Mt. Aloysius 5, Framingham State 1 

- Records: Framingham State (0-5), Mt Aloysius (4-2) 

- Location: Myrtle Beach, S.C. Griffith Field 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

Game 1:  

  • In the opener, after a pair of scoreless innings, Mt. Aloysius tallied single runs in the bottom of the third and fourth to take a 2-0 lead.   

  • The Rams cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth. Steven Burbank singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Matthew Shaver followed with a base hit allowing Burbank to score from second. 

  • Mt. Aloysius threatened in the bottom of the fifth, but Rams starter Scott Nosky worked out of the jam.  

  • The Rams took the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Chris Iannetta reached on an error and Robert Johnston followed with a double putting runners on second and third. Ryan Boyle delivered a three-run homer to right putting the Rams on top 4-2. 

  • The Rams added a single run in the top of the seventh on an Iannetta RBI single pushing the lead to 5-2. 

  • Mt. Aloysius answered with four in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of homeruns to secure the walk off victory. Trapp Wentling struck first with a three-run shot and Jeremy Iellimo followed with the game-winning solo home run to right. 

  • Nosky did not factor in the decision for the Rams, but went six innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. 

  • Iannetta went 3-for-4 in the game, while Boyle finished with a pair of hits and three RBI.  

Game 2:  

  • In game two, Mt. Aloysius got on the board with an RBI double from Iellimo in the top of the first inning. 

  • The Rams answered with the tying run in the bottom of the second inning. Joey Fasolino led off with a double and Burbank followed with an RBI double knotting the game at 1-1. 

  • Mt. Aloysius tallied three runs in the to of the fourth to open up a 4-1 lead and added a final run in the top of the seventh on a squeeze play to reach the final margin. 

  • Anthony Panza took the loss on the hill for the Rams going five innings allowing four earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and no walks. 

  • Aidan Abernathy tossed two innings of relief allowing one run on one hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks.

The Rams are back in action on Monday when they face McDaniel at 9 a.m.
