Hawks Break 100 Points in AMCC Victory Over Greensburg

HAMBURG, N.Y. –  The Hilbert College men's basketball team earned their first 100-point game this afternoon as they defeated Pitt-Greensburg (104-62) in a rematch of the 2016 AMCC title game from last February.

The Hawks got back on their feet offensively today displaying the shooter's touch and they found the grit to get it done defensively as they easily handled the very young Bobcats, who lost most of their team to graduation a year ago.

Masia Phillips and Nicholas Parucki each tossed-in 20 points to lead Hilbert's offensive attack while the team created challenges defensively for Greensburg who committed 21 turnovers.

Derrek Carman added 12 points and five rebounds while Kirkland Ottey posted 10 points but led the Hawks with a team-high seven rebounds.

Jonathan Jackson, who earned his first career start today, shared game-high assist honors with Hunter Martineau.  They combined for 10 of the Hawks' 26 helpers.

Phillips hit 6-of-8 at the foul line and was credited with four assists and two steals along with this 20 points.  Parucki took one bad shot, but made 10 of 15 from the floor and earned three blocks in the paint against the Bobcats.

The Hawks took a 9-0 lead before the Bobcats scratched the scoreboard.  That lead was stretched to 11 points (12-1) after Phillips hit from downtown, but Greensburg battled back cutting the score to just three points (21-18) with 11:41 to go.

Ottey and Josh Eddy combined for a mini-run but it was Parucki's jumper at 6:49 that gave Hilbert their first double-digit lead.

Martineau's shot in the paint put Hilbert on top again by 11 points and that was the closest Greensburg got the rest of the game.

Hilbert made 20 of 37 shots (54.1%) in the first half while Greensburg went 13-29 (44.8%).

Even with the 16-point half time lead (51-35), the Hawks did not take their foot off the gas pedal.  The coaching staff went to his bench early and every player responded.  The Hawks bench outscored Greensburg's bench 33-15 in the final session with an impressive 50% shooting touch.

Josh Eddy tossed in seven points, Kyle Kline went 2-for-4 from deep for six points, Ben Bolden-McMullian hit 5-of-6 at the charity stripe and Grant Beyer went 2-for-2 from the floor adding five points.

By the final horn, 13 players saw court time with 12 contributing on offense and grabbing at least one rebound.  Hilbert cleared the boards with a +13 effort and committed a season-low four turnovers.

Hilbert returns to action next week when they travel to Erie, Pa for an 8pm tip against Penn State Behrend, 9-4, 4-2 AMCC .  The Lions are currently on an AMCC two-game losing streak after they fell to Medaille (74-68) and Bradford (79-74) this past week.
