Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Volleyball Sets New Single Season Win Record

HAMBURG, N.Y. – After their straight-set victory over Wilson College this morning, the Hilbert College men's volleyball set a new single season win-record as they picked up their tenth victory of the season.

The Hawks tacked on another win at the end of the night against Lancaster Bible College and improved to 11-16 overall and finished their season at 8-8 in NEAC action.

Hilbert dropped the Phoenix to 0-15 in their first season of Division III competition and held the Chargers to a 2-14 league record.

In the 9 am contest against Wilson: Hilbert hit well and earned several service aces in the opening set sprinting out to a 25-12 win behind .412 percent and only two hitting errors.

The Hawks lost their focus in second set and gave away too many points early in the match, but they finished strong in the 25-17 victory.

The service line was not their friend in the final set.  Hilbert committed seven service errors which distracted their hitting as well (.032).  The Hawks pulled out the final set 25-21 and moved their success this season into the program's record book.

Michael Podgorny led with eight kills and Tanner Makowski followed with seven (.455) but it was Tyler Sieczkarek who finished with the best percentage of .500 (6 kills/1 error/10 attempts).

Korey Schwab and Makowski found their service swing earning a pair each and Adam Heftka assisted on 27 kills.

Then in the last game of the full day of volleyball, Hilbert endured a late-night match against Lancaster Bible.

The first set went back and forth with each team giving away points from the service line.  The Hawks held on for a 25-23 win and then jumped out to a 25-19 victory.  In the final set, Hilbert struck for 11 kills with only five hitting errors (.200) while the Chargers struggled and finishing with a .000 attack percentage with eight kills and eight hitting errors.

Korey Schwab tacked on 14 kills (one error) and shared team-high dig honors with Trevor Gabamonte as they each collected seven. Heftka continued to set for good attempts and he was credited with 29 of the team's 34 kills.  He and Tyler Sieczkarek earned a pair of block assists to close the NEAC portion of their 2016 schedule.

The Hawks will celebrate their three seniors prior to the start of their final game of the season Tuesday, April 5.  Hilbert is set to host Penn State Behrend in an AMCC match-up with will begin at 7pm.  Please arrive early so you can share in the team's senior reads.
