Hawks Go 2-0 on Spring Break After The 20-8 Win at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LA  – The Hilbert men's lacrosse team completed their southern swing with a 20-8 non-conference victory over Centenary College late this afternoon.
 
The Hawks were deadly with their speed and accuracy on attack, scoring 20 times after unleashing 30 shots on goal.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Hawks finished with 12 assists and manufactured 32 points in their first lopsided win of the season.
Six different players notched at least one goal, led by James Chadwick who led with six.
Chadwick fueled the offensive end of the field with 10 points.
Matthew Toro (5) and Edward Mathias (4) each added an assist to their scores while Donovan Dilbert and Anthony Cappola tossed in two hits.
Ryan Spath added three assists and Daniel Flynn (1g) feed two of Hilbert's scores.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hilbert doubled Centenary's production in each of the first quarters, building a 12-6 lead by intermission.
  • The Hawks tossed in six more goals in the third and coasted to the finish with two markers by the final horn.
  • Toro got the Hawks on the board at 12:33 while the Gents earned their first goal at 11:15.
  • Hilbert went on a 3-1 run and split the final two minutes with Centenary before the start of the second quarter.
  • Five different Hawks tallied goals in the second session as Hilbert went 6-for-6 on shots on goal in that 15-minute period.
  • Both teams were even at the break with 14 shots on goal even though Hilbert held a 12-6 lead.
  • Toro was the first to net in after the break again  as Chadwick notched three of his goals in the third period.
  • Flynn was credited with two of Hilbert second half assists by the final horn.
 

GAME NOTES
  • Joshua Maloney won 18 of the team's 25 face offs and led the Hawks with six ground balls. 
  • Ryan Spath was a 50-percent winner in the faceoff X and scooped five ground balls.
  • Michael Dhondt was credited with 11 saves in the game's first 48:39 minutes of action.
  • Spencer Kennedy closed the game with two save without a goal against.
WHAT'S NEXT

The 3-1 Hawks fly back to Western New York this weekend and prepare for their first game up north.  Hilbert has Elmira College in their sites for a March 17 home game.
