Eagles Soar Over Hawks Softball

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira College took two games from Hilbert College in a double header non-conference softball games today.  The Soaring Eagles won 8-0 and 14-0, both in 5 innings.

After scoring one run in the first and three in the second inning, Elmira was quiet in the third before they repeated their scoring action in the final two innings to take an 8-0 victory in the bottom of the fifth.

Hilbert was able to load the bases in the both the second and fourth innings but the runners were stranded with the final out in each inning.

Erin Smith went 2 for 2 to lead the Hawks.  Rebecca Bailey, Crystal Hailey and Jenna Castricone were the other Hawks who connected once with ball and spent some time running the bases.

Victoria Dzaak went 3.0 innings in the circle while giving up three earned runs and six hits with two strike outs.  Jaelyn Gotham closed the last 1.1 innings against 11 batters who scored four runs.

In the second game, after scoring one run in the first inning, Elmira benefited from four Hilbert errors paired with eight hits to post 12 additional runs by the top of the 3rd inning.

Hilbert was in scoring position in the top of the fourth when Erin Smith's single was followed by a two-base move thanks to Rachel Collier's single to the right side.  The next batter lined out to right field preventing the Hawks from earning a run in the game.

Erin Smith, Rachel Collier, Wyann Jackson and Jenna Castricone picked up hits for Hilbert.

TylerLynn Langer started in the circle and handed the ball to Jaelyn Gotham after eight runs were scored off five hits.  Gotham closed the game going 3.0 innings, picked up three strike outs, walked two batters and gave up six hits.
