HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hosting their home opener game in-front of over 100 fans, the Hilbert College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Alfred State September 10.  Amanda Binder dominated at the net for Hilbert but Alfred State had too many hitting weapons for the Hawks to defend in the non-conference match.  Hilbert falls to 2-6 overall while A-State improved to 5-2.

After a timeout was called in the first set with score at 16-16, the Pioneers stretched their lead to 21-16 before the Hawks responded.  A-State took the opening set 25-18.  Hilbert regrouped between sets and rallied from a 6-9 deficit to take a 13-9 lead.  The set was tied at 21 each late in the game, and Hilbert was able to take that set 25-22 after the visitors came up empty on successive hitting attempts.

Hilbert found themselves down 10-3 in the third set and never found their way back which lead to a 25-15 loss.  And A-State held their composure in the fourth set to claim a 25-21 match victory.

Jordan Botsford and Crystal Swanson assisted at the net with six kills each for Hilbert (.081).  Alfred State (.196) had four players reach for six or more kills led by Janae Hamilton's 13.  A-State finished the match with 47 kills which was eleven more than the Hawks.
