Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mallone Scores, Stegmeier Assists And Sets New Personal Record

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team scored the team's first goal of the season in the 25th minute to knot the score at 1-1, but the Hawks lost steam in the hot afternoon sun and suffered a 4-1 non-conference defeat to St. Vincent College.

Gina Mallone finished a long serve from goalie Brianna Stegmeier mid-way through the first half and gave Hilbert an emotional lift.  The Bearcats added one more marker before intermission and then closed the game with a pair of second half hits for the win.

Stegmeier, besides earning her first collegiate assist, broke her previous single-game save record by collecting 14 today.  She was credited with eight saves in the first half and six in the second as she spent the afternoon literally flying all over the box.

St. Vincent finished the game with a 17-0 advantage in corners and a 46-9 tilt in shots.

Mallone led the Hawks offensive push with seven shots, four on-goal.  Erin Buckley and Lauren Lepovich each were credited with a shot on goal.

Hilbert (0-6) returns to the grassy field on campus September 20, when they welcome Alfred State to Hamburg in a 4pm kick.
