PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Hilbert College softball team made their way to Pittsburgh and avoided the rain of Western New York this afternoon.
The Hawks (10-14, 3-7 AMCC) split their games against La Roche College, winning the openner 11-9 before they dropped the nightcap, 6-3.
GAME 1
After trailing 3-0 through two innings, Hilbert posted runs in the third through sixth, to claim a come-from-behind win over the hosts.
The Hawks had three big innings collecting a total of 10 runs as they built an 11-8 lead by the start of the seventh. The Redhawks snuck one more run in before
Rachel Allen earned her second win in the circle.
Gabrielle Bongiorno got Hilbert on the board first with the Hawks' only multi-base hit on the day.
Victoria Dzaak went 3-for-4, scored off Bongiorno's double and knocked in 2RBI.
Hannah Prenoveau led with 3RBI and
Brittany Cooley pushed in 2. Hilbert earned 10 RBI on their 10 hits.
Allen earned another complete-game victory giving up six earned runs while adding seven strike outs.
GAME 2
The Hawks found one run in the first three innings as they held a 3-2 lead by the top of the 5th. La Roche made contact and came back with four unanswered runs in the bottom half and held on for their first AMCC victory, 6-3.
Jenna Castricone lifted Hilbert with 2 RBIs while
Brittany Cooley,
Rebecca Bailey and Bongiorno each earned two (of the Hawks' nine) hits.
It was Dzaak turn in the circle and she went six innings with six earned runs and six strike outs.
Hilbert is scheduled to host Pitt-Bradford April 18 in a typical mid-week, 3pm double header.
