Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's tennis team took part in two matches over the weekend as the Mounties defeated St. Vincent 6-3 in non-conference action on Saturday before being edged by a final of 5-4 against AMCC opponent Penn State Altoona on Sunday.
In the victory over SVC,
Trent McErlane and
Aubrey Brown earned an 8-4 victory at #2 doubles before
Nick Centar and
Dylan Matta won 8-2 at #3 doubles giving Mount Aloysius a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Matt Hample recorded a 6-2, 7-6 win at #2 singles before McErlane battled for a 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 win at #3 singles. Brown recorded a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #4 singles to clinch the match for the Mounties, and Centar wrapped up the individual victories with a win at #5 singles.
On Sunday, Mount Aloysius fell in #1 and #2 doubles before Centar and Matta combined for a victory at #3 doubles. The two teams split 3-3 in singles matches with the Mounties earning wins at #3, #4 and #5 singles courtesy of McErlane, Brown and Centar.
The Mounties are now 7-6 overall and 2-3 in conference action. They have wrapped up the #4 seed in the AMCC tournament and will face #1 seed Franciscan on April 22nd with the winner advancing to the AMCC Championship match on April 23rd.
