Volleyball Opens With a Win

SPRINGFIELD, OH – The Hilbert College men's volleyball team opened their 2016 season with a shut-out victory against Adrian College in a match played at Wittenberg University tonight.

The Hawks finished the match with .327 attack percentage as five different players posted kills in the non-conference match.   The Royal and White were also credited with 15 service aces against a first-year NCAA program from Michigan.

Coach Krueger was pleased with his team's performance.  "We were able to score from all areas of the court tonight, including the service line.  If we can continue to have the balanced attack we had tonight, we will be tough to match-up against."

Michael Podgorny led the attack with nine kills (.667).  Korey Schwab chipped in six kills and five service aces while a trio of Hawks reached four kills each.

Adam Heftka was credited with 18 assists in addition to three digs and service aces.

Tyler Sieczkarek and Trevor Gabamonte collected a team-high four digs each as Hilbert finished with only 22 digs in the match.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow morning against Olivet College at 10 am and then close-out the trip against the hosts, Wittenberg University at 1pm.  Both games will have live stats.
