Men's Lacrosse Earns 8th Consecutive Victory Over Medaille

HAMBURG, N.Y. - James Duffy, Drew Werner and Edward Mathias combined for 21 of Hilbert's 29 points today as the men's lacrosse team earned a 16-6 North Eastern Athletic Conference victory over cross-town rival Medaille College.

The Hawks improved to 2-1 in league play (4-4 overall) and dropped the Mavericks to 0-3 and 1-12 overall.

After giving up the game's first goal to the visitors, Hilbert controlled the pace of the opening quarter and built a 7-1 score.  The Hawks won the final three quarters but they allowed the Mavs to match scoring efforts each period.  

Hilbert averaged 14 shots per quarter and held a 31-19 shots on goal advantage by the final horn.

Duffy's three goals (two assists) pushed the offense as five different Hawks scored goals in the first session.   Byt the final horn, Duffy collected four goals and four assists

Werner scored his only goal in the second quarter, but continued to move the ball into good scoring position as he led the Hawks with six assists on the day.  He also worked for two caused turnovers and five ground balls in the win.

Mathias, who tallied two goals in the first half, continued to fire-away at the Maverick goalie the entire game.  A good handful of his 17 shots (11 on goal) hit pipe and he finished the day with five goals and one assist.

Joshua Maloney won 17 face-offs and scooped 13 ground balls while Travis Kilanowski led with three caused turnovers on defense.  

Brandon Bitka evened the game at 1-1 in the first two minutes of the game.  Anthony Cappola and Daniel Flynn each scored two goals and Marc O'Neill finished the Hawks scoring.

Elijah Ryan finished with 11 saves in the win and Spencer Kennedy closed the final seven minutes with two saves while holding tight with no goals allowed.

The Hawks return to league play this weekend when they travel to Cazenovia College April 13 for a 1pm game.
