Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Bradford 3-0

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer put its three-game losing streak to a halt on Saturday afternoon, when the Lady Lions defeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford 3-0 in their final home game of the regular season at Spring Run Stadium.

Penn State Altoona (5-8-2, 3-4-1 AMCC) got goals from Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford), Sam Jones (Clifford Township, PA/Mountain View), and Paige Morse (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) in the victory, and Lauryn Faber (Coral Springs, FL/Rosenblatt) recorded two assists.

Kaitlyn Harmon (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) started at goalkeeper and played a scoreless first half, making two saves and picking up her fifth win of the season. Diana Miller (Haymarket, VA/Battlefield) entered in relief at halftime, playing the second period and making five saves to keep Pitt-Bradford (4-11, 2-5 AMCC) off of the scoreboard.

The team's efforts helped honor senior defender/midfielder Jenna Mickel (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) on her Senior Day. Mickel, in her third and final season with Penn State Altoona women's soccer, was recognized in a pregame ceremony.

Penn State Altoona scored two goals late in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) set up her team's first goal, getting a long pass from midfield to McConnell, who scored at 37:21 for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Jones scored her second goal of the season at the 40:15 mark, taking a pass from Faber and scoring on a shot that increased the Lady Lions' advantage to 2-0.

Penn State Altoona tacked a goal on to its total late in the second half. Faber's pass into the right side of the box set up Morse, who scored her second goal of the season to make it 3-0 at 86:24.

Penn State Altoona finished the day with leads over Pitt-Bradford in shots attempted (15-8) and shots on goal (9-7). The Lady Panthers had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

McConnell led all players on the day with five shots attempted, including putting three shots on goal. Irwin and Jones each finished with three shot attempts and two shots on goal.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer will look to pick up another AMCC win in its next game, when the Lady Lions travel to Pittsburgh to play conference foe La Roche University on Wednesday, October 23 at 3:15 p.m.
