D'Youville Tops Women's Volleyball on the Road

ROCHESTER, NY-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team traveled to St. John Fisher College on Friday afternoon to compete against D'Youville College in a non-conference match. The Badgers fell to the Spartans by a score of 3-1 after winning the first set of the match.

It was Lauren Havill and Nikola Knapova who led the way for the Badgers throughout the match. Havill recorded a match high 13 kills, while Knapova followed with 11 kills. It was NVU-Johnson who captured the win in the first set of action. The Badgers opened up the lead by scoring the first five points of the set. 

The Spartans began to climb back after a Badger attack error. Midway through the set it was the Badgers who held the lead by a score of 19-12. A service error from Mason Lores allowed the Spartans to close the deficit but a late contribution from freshman Ashley Emery sealed set one as the Badgers won by a score of 25-21. Lores contributed a match high 34 assists moving her into third place all time in assists with 257 for her career.

The Spartans took three straight sets after trailing 1-0 in the match. Sarah Wittek lead D'Youville with a team high ten kills, Julia Peinkofer followed with nine kills on the evening and Angela Fikov recorded a team high 20 assists.

The Spartans controlled set number two winning by a score of 25-15. Both sides traded blows, but it was the Spartans who found a way to stay ahead as they captured set three and four by a score of 25-21. 

With the loss women's volleyball moves to 6-5 on the year.

The Badgers return to action against Wells on Saturday, September 21 at St. John Fisher College. The match is set to begin at 11:00am.
