MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Hilbert College softball returned to the diamond early this morning and earned an 11-1 victory over Anna Maria College which evened their record at 3-3.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn scholarship athletes beat the Hawks in a 8-0 5-inning game to close the afternoon.
GAME ONE
Hilbert, trailing 1-0 by the time they took their bats in the bottom of the 1st inning, posted three runs and never looked back. The Hawks tacked a solo run in the 2nd, four more in the 3rd and took the 5-inning victory by adding three final runs in the 4th.
Marisa McIntyre improved to 3-2 with a 4.31 era after four complete games. She struck out seven more batters, gave up six walks and three hits.
Melanie Basile went 3-for-3 with two doubles, 2 RBI and scored three runs in the win.
Sam Shallcross went 2-for-2, also hitting a double along the way, which scored one run and
Nateal Papasergi knocked in two runs with her solo hit in the third.
Basile, Shallcross and
Morgan McNeill connected on back-to-back-to-back doubles in the 1st as Hilbert took the 3-1 lead thanks to
Gabriella Bongiorno's single RBI at the close of the inning.
As
Alyssa Barnas was attempting to steal second base,
Maia Delaney tacked Hilbert's solo run in the 3rd inning before the Hawks added four more unearned runs in the 4th. Barnas, Basile and Shallcross scored the final runs which pushed the game towards an early finish.
McIntyre faced five batters, struck out two and walked two to earn the win.
GAME TWO
The NAIA University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines secured a 5-inning 8-0 victory over the Hawks in the nightcap.
UM-D's pitcher went the full five innings, faced 16 batters and earned a no hitter even though she walked one Hawk.
McIntyre (3-3) took the ball at the start of the game and went into the second inning before
Melanie Basile entered the circle. Basile went 3.0 innings and gave up five of the Wolverines hits a long with two of their six earned runs.
Hilbert closes their southern excursion with one final set of games in Myrtle Beach tomorrow. The Hawks are gearing up for a sweep against Rivier (11:30 am), having beaten them earlier in the week, before they finish with a 1pm game against Waynesburg (no video provided based on the field their game is scheduled at).
