FDU-Florham rallied for a victory in game one, 5-4, and then took game two 11-3 as Alfred State continued play on their spring break trip in Florida.
The Devils got on the board in the 1st on a solo homer but the Pioneers bounced back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) hit a RBI triple and Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) followed with a RBI single up the middle. FDU tied it up in the top of the 3rd but Gavin Moore (Hilton) made it 3-2 with a sac fly in the bottom of the inning. Jack Henby (Hornell) made it 4-2 in the 5th when he scored on a wild pitch.
The game remained 4-2 until the 7th when FDU-Florham scored three runs to take back the lead and John Franco retired the Pioneers in order in the 7th to save the game.
Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) and Avallone were each 2 for 3 in the game.
The Devils erased an early 1-0 deficit in the nightcap and scored nine unanswered runs to take control of the game. Avallone had another solid day at the plate finishing 2 for 4 with a RBI. The Pioneers did draw eight walks but stranded 10 runners on base.
The Pioneers play their final game of the year on Sunday when they play a 11 a.m. doubleheader vs. Wooster at the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, FL.
