LRU Loses Nailbiter to Franciscan

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - In tonight's nail biter, LRU volleyball was defeated 3-2 at home against Franciscan University in a non-conference match. La Roche came back after losing the first two sets and pushed it to five. Unfortunatley, the Redhawks dropped the final set 15-11. LRUVB moves to 2-7 overall this season.

Every set except for the third had a point difference of either 4 points or less (25-21, 25-22, 16-25, 23-25, and 15-11)

After a competitive win, Franciscan tallied up a total of 50 kills of their 204 total attempts, 44 assists, 15 serving aces, 91 digs, and finished with .098 kill percentage.

To put in comparison to how close this game was, the Redhawks finished with 44 kills of their 181 attempts, 37 assists, 11 serving aces, 90 digs, and a .116 kill percentage. Of those final statistics,

  • La Roche managed to have less attack errors than Franciscan (23-30)
  • Senior libero Sydney Herzer held a career-high of 32 digs. Herzer has had 30 or more digs in three games this season
  • Senior outside hitter Bethany Nulph managed to grasp her second double-double of the season with a team-high 10 kills and 10 digs
  • Junior setter Cassidy Rossi had a team-high 16 assists and 14 digs, her fourth double-double of the season
  • Sophomore outside Hitter Lauren Tomasko had eight kills and an impressive .364 kill percentage

NEXT UP: La Roche volleyball will visit Allegheny College for a two day, three game tournament on Friday, September 17. On Friday at 5 PM La Roche takes on Chatham and on Saturday, September 18 LRU faces Allegheny at 11 AM and Waynesburg at 1 PM.
