O’Loughlin Breaks Kill Record at PSU Tri-Match

The Wells College men's volleyball team traveled to Erie, Pa. for a tri-match with Randolph-Macon College and host Penn State University-Behrend on Sunday, Feb. 2. 

Caden O'Loughlin set the Wells College all-time record for kills during the tri-match by surpassing Brannon Perdicho's 1307 total in the third set of the Randolph-Macon match with his final kill for career No. 1308.

On this Groundhog Day, their were no shadows found due to the velocity on the hits after an O'Loughlin kill. The senior finished with 13 kills against Randolph-Macon and then added another 18 in a victory over Penn State for a team-high 31 over seven sets to set the new kills all-time record at 1326 and counting.

The Express topped the Yellow Jackets by set scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-12 in the opening match sweep and then followed that with a 3-1 victory over Penn State-Behrend with set scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-21.

Against Randolph-Macon, O'Loughlin also led the team in digs with nine, while Cooper Colesante served up a pair of aces and Justin Williams finished with four blocks.

Against Penn State, Robert Patzer had a team-high 20 kills and shared the digs lead with Josh Undari with eight each. Undari finished the second match with 46 assists and 68 on the day, that included the assist on O'Loughlin's record-setting kill in the previous match. Joe Zimmerman added a pair of aces and Colesante finished with four blocks (two solo) against the Nittany Lions.

The men's volleyball team will next travel to Nazareth on Friday, Feb. 7 for another tri-match. The Express begin play against Geneva at 2 p.m. and then face Thiel at 4 p.m.
