HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert women's soccer team got right back on track this afternoon and earned their third victory in their last four games.
Freshman
Gina Mallone earned her first collegiate goal which ultimately turned into her first game winning goal as the Hawks (3-2) captured a 4-0 non-conference win over Thiel College (0-5).
Shannon Rogers netted a pair of goals, one in each half and
Courtney Vaccaro closed Hilbert's scoring after she picked up her second tally of the season.
Jenna Castricone faced 15 shots and made all three saves to ensure her second shutout win of the season.
"It was great to get the clean sheet today," said coach
Kelly Starchok. "Our backline was consistent all day breaking down Thiel's attack and their efforts defensively gave Castricone the shutout. I was extremely proud of the entire team as many players stepped up their game and contributed to our game plan success."
In the 40th minute of action,
Jackie Morgan took a hard shot and the Tomcat keeper deflected it back into play; Malone chased down the loose ball and pushed it over the end line to break the scoreless tie.
Then just two and a half minutes later,
Shannon Rogers scored her first goal in her final season. The second-year player lifted the ball over the visiting goalie's outstretched hands and dropped it to the back of the net to give Hilbert the 2-0 lead at the break.
Then just seven minutes into the second period, the Hawks made a major separation from Thiel. In less than 40-seconds, the Hilbert posted a pair of markers to build a 4-0 lead.
Vaccaro gave Rogers a nice through pass setting her up for break away. Rogers used her left foot again and scored her second goal of the day ta 52:01.
Vaccaro end the day with a poke in the net thirty-seven seconds later.
Morgan and Rogers led the attack with four shots on goal each, followed by Mallone and Vaccaro's two.
Hilbert returns to action with another non-conference double header against St. Vincent this weekend. The women take the field at 1pm.
