STEUBENVILLE, OH – Hilbert's
Travis Hicks kept his scoring streak alive in today's 4-1 loss at Franciscan University this afternoon. The Barons scored two-unanswered second half markers to earn their 2nd AMCC win and improved to 5-9-1 overall. Hilbert moved to 2-9 overall and is tied with Franciscan at 2-4.
Hicks found the back of the net early in the game when he converted a loose ball off a Franciscan save (shot by
Austin Mathis) into the back of the net in the 25th minute. Hicks has scored one or more goals in the last three games.
Franciscan was able to convert a penalty kick at 34:33 and found the back of the net again just four minutes later to ride their 2-1 lead to the break.
Hilbert pushed to force a tie but in the 78th minute the Barons scored again and stretched their lead to 4-1 with less than 30 seconds remaining in the contest.
Franciscan doubled the Hawks offensive production credited with 28 shots (10 on goal) to Hilbert's 11 (4). The Barons attempted 10 corner kicks while Hilbert finished with three.
Ryan Valentine went the full 90-minutes and collected six saves. Besides Hicks shot on goal, the remaining three were credited to defender
Austin Mathis.
The men's soccer team heads to the West side of Buffalo for the neutral-site game against Medaille College October 21. The Hawks will battle the 9-5-1, (3-2-1 AMCC) Mavericks at the Art Dobson Turf Field Complex at D'Youville College. The 1 pm game will have
