Baseball Splits on Road as Fittry Becomes A Dad Back in Buffalo

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Hilbert College baseball team returned to action today and split their non-conference series against Cazenovia College.

The Hawks earned an 8-4 early win before they suffered a 13-12 nightcap defeat to the Wildcats.

Griffith DeMayo went 5-for-9 and scored four runs while Jonathan Wilson finished with 5 RBI off three hits.

James DiSanti whacked his second home run in two days in the opening game to lift the Hawks to a four-run win.

Ian Moran, after become the program's All Time Stolen Base leader April 24, joined Austin O'Shei, DeMayo and Tristan Aldinger with two stolen bases each during the twinbill.

But the most important delivery occured this morning when head coach Drew Fittry and his wife, Meghan welcomed a little bouncing boy to this world at 10:16 am.   Coach Fittry certainly hit a home run himself becoming the daddy to a healthy Brayden Alexander.

DeMayo earned both Hilbert RBIs, one in the 1st and the other in the 5th.   Jared Welnowski sacrifice hit in the 6th inched the Hawks closer to Caz (3-4).

Then, with bases loaded, Wilson's single pushed in two runs before DiSanti's 3-run homer put the game away in the 7th.

Cazenovia responded with three runs in the bottom the 5th, after Hilbert moved to 10 runs in the top half and neither team did any damage in the 6th.

The Hawks added a solo run in the top of the 7th but Cazenovia forced extra innings after tagging three runs in the bottom of the 7th.

Hilbert put one run on the board in the 8th only to see the Wildcats roar back with a walk-off single to grab the win.

Noah Welch went 3.2 inning as a starter, went 3.2 innings, struck out three with one walk and three earned runs.
