MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Hawks softball team fell short in their seventh-inning rally this morning as they dropped a 6-5 decision to Randolph College who improved to 11-5 overall. The softball team stepped right back on the field for a game against Penn College at the conclusion of the first game and picked up right where they left off. The Hawks earned their first shut-out victory with a 4-0 win over Penn College.
In the morning game, Hilbert trailed 5-2 through the first six innings and when Randolph added another run in the top of the 7th, the Hawks found themselves in bigger hole which they had to dig out of.
Nateal Papasergi and
Rebecca Bailey earned hits at the start of the bottom half of the inning and were joined by Morgan
McNeill who reached on an error. Morgan
Grosch reached on a fielder's choice and she and
McNeill took an extra base each as
Papasergi and Bailey scored on a fielding error. Jenna
Castricone singled through the left side scoring
McNeill which cut the score to one run. Randolph ended Hilbert's come-back with a pair of back-to-back catches in the field.
Papasergi went 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored a run as
Brittany Cooley went 2 for 3.
Castricone stole a base and earned an RBI while
Gabriella Bongiorno's only hit was an RBI double.

Hilbert earned their first shutout victory and improved to 3-4 with the 4-0 win against Penn. Freshman
Marisa McIntyre (3-1) continues to sit at the top of the reported AMCC statistics early in the season. She tacked nine more strike outs to her career total and finished with one walk.
Rebecca Bailey went 2 for 4 and
Hannah Prenoveau (2 stolen bases) went 2 for 2 with an RBI.
Hilbert has two chances to move above .500 tomorrow when they tangle with Chatham at 1:30 pm and then Wentworth Institute of Technology at 5:30pm. Fans can follow the games via live stream or live stats.
