Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

SUNY Poly PIcks Up Win as Hilbert Falls in Three

MARCY, N.Y. – After jumping out to leads in the first two sets, the Hilbert College men's volleyball team  tumbled in straight sets to SUNY Poly and dropped to 1-19 overall and 1-8 in league play.

Andrew Wolbert earned two of his four individual kills in the early moments of opening set but with side-outs and rotations, the Wildcats held on for a 25-23 first set win.  The Hawks and Wildcats traded points early but SUNY Poly pulled away to grab a four-point lead (11-7).  Hilbert responded and forced two more ties (16-16), (22-22) but two Hilbert hitting errors gave the hosts the first set win.

In similar fashion, Hilbert jumped ahead early thanks to Brett Kane and Andrew Wolbert's kills and Hilbert's only service ace of the match hit by Korey Schwab.  SUNY Poly responded with three straight kills and each team traded points until SUNY Ploy stretched their one point lead to three points, then to five points.  With the score 21-13, The Wildcats hit three kills to claim a 25-17 win.

Hilbert earned only six points in the final set which they lost 25-16.  Both Korey Schwab and Brett Kane earned three kills apiece in that run.

Brett Kane led the Hawks attack with seven kills (.208), three digs and two block assists.  Korey Schwab also netted seven kills, matched Kane's dig effort and work at the net on defense.   Andrew Wolbert finished with team-best (.222) attack percentage with four kills.

Adam Heftka paired five digs with his 18 assists and one block assist.

SUNY Poly (11-10, 4-6) bettered Hilbert's hitting (.195 vs .000) which resulted in 34 kills to 21.

Hilbert returns to Hamburg for this weekend's NEAC tri-match Friday, March 20 when they host D'Youville College at 3pm.  The Spartans will then square-off against Medaille College at 5pm.

The men's volleyball team will honor their two seniors prior to the 7pm game against Medaille College.  Both Andrew Duncan and Ryan Ratajczak will be competing in the Hafner Center for their final home-game in their four-year volleyball careers.
