THE BASICS
  • Final Score: D'Youville 69 Hilbert 60
  • Location: College Center Gym, D'Youville College 8pm
  • Records: Hilbert 15-5 (12-3 AMCC) | D'Youville 13-8 (11-5 AMCC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks got off to a strong start, as they used a pair of Macy Kisner baskets and stout defensive play to build an early 9-2 lead.
  • D'Youville answered immediately with a 7-0 run, capped by a Sara Pfeiffer three-pointer, to tie things up at nine with just over two minutes to play in the opening quarter.
  • Hilbert took the lead back with a pair of free throws, before D'Youville hit back to back threes to end the first quarter with a 15-11 lead over the visiting Hawks.
  • The Spartans extended their run into the second quarter, building a 22-14 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the half.
  • After a pair of free throws by Ashley Schroeder, the Hawks turned to their senior forward Ashley Repine who answered the calling with three straight baskets in the paint to cap an 8-0 Hilbert run and tie it up at 22-22 with 2:41 to go in the first half.
  • D'Youville answered by forcing three Hawks turnovers and converting on the offensive end to build a 28-22 lead, but it was Hilbert's Emma Fredo who closed out the scoring in the first half with a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to cut the Hawks deficit to just four points heading into the second half.
  • Hilbert got off to another strong start in the second half as senior Taylor Corts opened the second half scoring with a layup, which Ashley Repine followed with a pair of baskets during the Hawks 8-2 run to give the visitors a 32-30 lead just under three minutes into the third quarter.
  • Both teams traded baskets over the next few minutes, resulting in a 36-35 margin in favor of the host Spartans with 3:53 left in the third.
  • The final 3:53 was a defensive battle as both teams turned up the intensity and aggressiveness on the defensive end resulting in some missed shots and turnovers to send the game into the fourth quarter with D'Youville holding on to a slim 40-37 lead.
  • Sara Pfeiffer opened up the scoring in the fourth with a big three to put the Spartans up six, but Hilbert answered immediately with a trio of baskets from seniors Taylor Corts, Emily Gawlak and Ashley Repine to make it a one possession game at 45-43 with just over eight minutes left to play.
  • D'Youville's Sara Pfeiffer scored the next five consecutive points, which Hilbert guard Emily Gawlak answered with a pair of layups to keep the Hawks within a basket at 50-47 with 4:09 remaining.
  • The Hawks would keep the Spartan lead to just three points after a pair of Macy Kisner layups had the royal and white down 54-51 with 2:43 to go, but that would be the closest they could get, as the Spartans hit key free throws down the stretch to earn a 69-60 Buffalo Cup win over the Hawks.
  • Hilbert's Ashley Repine finished with a team-high 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while a trio of Hawks tied for the team-lead with two assists.
  • D'Youville's Sara Pfeiffer led all scorers with a game-high 26 points, whiel Riley Riedel added a team-high 10 rebounds and Daniel Hore dished out a game-high five assists.
