Redhawks Battle the Mavericks in a Conference Matchup

Redhawks Battle the Mavericks in a Conference Matchup

PITTSBURGH, PA - This afternoon La Roche softball faced off against conference opponent, the Medaille Mavericks.

Game One

The first game of the double header got away from the Redhawks quickly. The Mavericks in the first inning were able to drive in four runs during their first turn at bat.

The Redhawks tried to get a rally going in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ashtin Hoover's single pushed Abby Hoffman across home plate, but the team could not seem to hold the Mavericks off from scoring.

In the top of the fifth inning, Medaille scored another five runs, triggering the 10 run rule, and ending the game in five innings.

Putting in work at the plate for La Roche was Katie Gaughan, Kelly Denk, Alexis Myers, Garrah Milochik, Emilee Waldrop and Abby Hoffman

Myers took the loss for this game, she allowed 11 hits, 11 runs, and four strikeouts.

Game Two

The second game for the Redhawks went in a much different fashion. La Roche was able to get on the board quickly after the Mavericks. Leading the offense was Garrah Milochik, she pushed in three runs by singling to right field, twice.

Both teams battled it out, and in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mavericks and the Redhawks were tied, and in the bottom of the ninth inning, La Roche was able to snag a one run lead with some help from Macy Vignolini who rocked one out to right field and drove in two runs.

It was a lead, unfortunately that the Redhawks could not hang on top. In the top of the seventh inning, the Mavs pushed in three runs, giving them a two run lead that La Roche just could not rally against.

Contributing to getting the scoring runs going for the Redhawks was Ashtin Hoover, Katie Gaughan, Kelly Denk, Alexis Myers, Brandi Clyde, and Maria Schussler all connected to get on base.

Emilee Waldrop took the loss for tonight's contest. Waldrop allowed 11 hits, 11 runs, and two strikeouts.
