Lary Scores 18 in Panther Loss at LaRoche

Pittsburgh, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon, as they took on LaRoche to wrap up a three-game road stretch. Hannah Lary scored 18 points as the Panthers lost to the Redhawks 103-50.

  • The Panthers got off to their worst start of the season as the tough Redhawk defense was able to keep Pitt-Bradford off the scoreboard for the first 5 and a half minutes of play. They took advantage of the struggling Panther offense, turning their defensive stops into 18 straight points. After Hannah Lary was able to get the Panthers on the board from the free-throw line, Avery Benzel hit a three-pointer for the Panthers' first field goal of the game. The Panthers were able to build some momentum and score 4 more unanswered points. Benzel made a pull-up jumper after her three and Cassidy King added another field goal after a steal from Cailey Barnett.
  • The Redhawks extended their lead to 19 points as the second quarter began before Barnett hit a three to get the Panthers started in the period. After the Barnett three, LaRoche clamped down on defense again, keeping the Panthers off the board for another three-minute stretch, which allowed them to extend their lead to 24 points. Hannah Lary ended the run, as she was able to make a mid-range jumper with 5:44 to go in the half. In the final five minutes of the half, the Panthers got field goals from Lary and Daizjah Brown and an Alexa Ackerman three but saw their hosts add to their lead, sending the game to the break with the Panthers trailing 49-22.
  • Things did not improve for Pitt-Bradford after the break, as the Redhawks opened the third with 7 straight points. Barnett made a free throw to get the Panthers back on track and after a defensive stop, Lary made a long ball on a pass from Cassidy King. Lary made another three-pointer a few possessions later and Barnett made a jumper in transition before LaRoche went on a 19-3 run to end the quarter.
  • The hosts continued the run as the 4th quarter began, scoring the first 5 points of the final period. King and Benzel made layups around a LaRoche three and Benzel capped the anther run with another triple. Lary made four out of four from the line and Ackerman added two layups in the final few minutes of the contest.

Lary was the only Panther to finish in double figures as she scored 18 points. She made 2 of 4 from beyond the arc and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line. Avery Benzel finished with 9 points and Cailey Barnett added 8. Cassidy King led the Panthers' rebounding effort with 8.

The Panthers drop to 2-13 with an 0-7 record in AMCC play. The Panthers will return to KOA Arena in their midweek matchup as they will host Alfred State on Wednesday, January 26th. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
