Women's Soccer Slips In League Play

BRADFORD, Pa. – After breaking into the NSCAA Great Lakes Region as the #10 ranked team yesterday, the Hilbert College women's soccer team suffered a setback this afternoon.

The Hawks slipped in a 3-0 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference defeat to Pitt-Bradford and dropped to 8-3 overall.

In an evenly played game, Bradford held an edge in shots (16-11) as well as a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.   Jenna Castricone was credited with six saves in the 90 minute contest playing in her 27th game as a collegiate keeper.

The Panthers got on the board twice in the first half scoring a pair of assisted goals to take a 2-0 lead to the break.  Bradford struck late in the 8th minute and responded again after 35 minutes of action.  At that point in the game, Bradford held a slight 6-5 edge in shots.

The hosts turned up the heat in the second half building a four-shot difference with they converted into a third marker at 78:01.

Hibert pushed hard for a pass over the defense, as they were whistled for six off-sides, four in the opening period.

Gina Mallone earned two shots on goal and Jennifer Colvin, Courtney Vaccaro and Emily MacKinnon added the other single shots for Hilbert.

The Hawks dropped into second place in the AMCC standings sitting directly behind La Roche College (4-0) whom they host this weekend.  The Redhawks (7-4, 4-0) travel to Hamburg for a 1pm match-up October 8.

Seniors Jennifer Colvin, Jackie Morgan, Shannon Rogers, Courtney Vaccaro and Imarie Waller will be honored during Senior Day activities prior to the start of the game (12:40pm).  All are invited to come celebrate their success.
