Men’s Basketball Takes Down Penn State – Behrend in Last Road Non-Conference Game

ERIE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team took down opponent Penn State – Behrend in their last non-conference road game of the season by a final score of 69-55 inside the Junker Center. 

BW Leaders (2-2)

  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) posted a season-high 28 points and eight rebounds.
  • Sophomore guard Ashton Price (Bay Village/Bay) posted a career-high 14 points.
  • Senior forward Jackson Simmons (Wadsworth) was a force on defense with a career-high our blocks.

Penn State-Behrend Leaders (2-3)

  • Mason Blackenberg led with 14 points off the bench.
  • RJ Marsh added 13 points and seven rebounds.

First Half (BW 36-34)

  • Mazzeo started off the half hot scoring the first eight points for the Yellow Jackets as BW opened the game on an 8-2 run.
  • The Nittany Lions followed that up with an 11-2 run as they got their first lead of the game.
  • Price tied the game up at 19-19 with a layup and a foul.
  • A late 11-4 run by the Yellow Jackets gave them a 36-34 halftime lead.
  • Mazzeo was the high scorer of the half as he scored 19 points on 7-10 field goals.
  • Blankenberg lead Penn State – Behrend with 10 points at the break.
  • Price led both teams with five rebounds.

Second Half (BW 69-55)

  • Tenacious defense and attacking the point was the key to success for BW early in the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets went on an 8-0 with 17:41 left in the half as they made four layups and forced three turnovers.
  • An 8-2 run by the Nittany Lions brought them to within 1 point of BW as they trailed 52-51 with 9:38 left in the game.
  • A 9-2 run by the Yellow Jackets ended by a Price three forced a Penn State-Behrend timeout with 4:48 left in the half as BW gained a 62-53 lead. 
  • Price posted nine points on 3-4 shooting and added two steals.
  • Simmons added four points, six rebounds and three blocks.
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jake Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) contributed five points, four rebounds and a steal.
  • Marsh led the Nittany Lions with eight points.

The Yellow Jackets return to the hardwood on Wednesday, November 30 when they open up OAC play on the road against Heidelberg University inside the Seiberling Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
