Tigers Improve To 3-0 With Wins Over EMU and Geneva

Springfield, OH – For the first time since the 2017 season, the Wittenberg Tiger Men's Volleyball team has opened their season unbeaten through the opening weekend. The Tigers concluded their 2023 season opening weekend with a doubleheader hosting the Royals from Eastern Mennonite University and the Golden Tornadoes from Geneva College. Wittenberg emerged with two wins on the day, claiming a 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-10, 25-19) win over Eastern Mennonite to start day. Moving over to the 1929 Fieldhouse for a close-knit environment, Wittenberg surged past Geneva with a commanding 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-19) win.

Eli Halverson led the Tiger attack to start the day. Halverson put down 13 kills on 25 total attacks with two errors, adding four aces from the service line and two block assists. Dominic Melchiorre contributed 10 kills on 23 swings for the Wittenberg offense. Melchiorre finished with five digs and an ace.

The Tigers closed the weekend with a sweep of the Golden Tornadoes from Geneva. Leading the way was Tom Supan with 13 kills, adding three aces in the final match of the afternoon. Kurt Klamfoth posted a .538 hitting-percentage through the final three sets of the day, putting down eight kills on 13 swings with just one error.

Sam Richardson posted 64 assists on the day helping quarterback the Tiger offense. Halverson and Richardson each tallied 10 digs in the final match against Geneva.
