FT. PIERCE, FL – The Hilbert College baseball team closed out their 2015 spring break, spring training week with a double header loss to The College of St. Scholastica March 14.
The Saints grabbed a 3-0 opening game win before they took a 12-3 mid-day game. After the final out and a quick shower, the Hawks boarded the bus and headed back north to Hamburg with a 2-10 non-conference overall record.
St. Scholastica's D. Wood went the full seven innings on the mound and finished with a one hit-five strikeout performance. Hilbert's trio of pitchers,
Matt Goraj,
Justin Hulbert and
Joshua Maier combined for an eight hit, five strike-out game. Goraj went four innings and gave up one earned run, four hits and had three strike outs.
St. Scholastica scored thanks in part to a double bagger to center field in the 3
rd inning and did it twice in the fifth due to a pair of Hilbert errors.
Justine Crawley,
Joshua Maier and
Connor O'Malley shared duties on the mound and survived 37 batters in the 12-3 later game. Crawley tossed four strikes and gave up four earned runs in 3.1 innings. O'Malley earned the other strike-out and gave up three hits in his 1.2 innings.
Paul Wujek and
Jason Baum each pushed out a double and
Dalton Reynolds, Wujek,
Joshua Maier, Baum and
Chris Shriver combined for Hilbert's five hits.
Reynolds continues to lead the Hawks with stolen bases as he added another to his season total.
After the Hawks return to campus, they hope to get out on the grassy fields to practice again before their non-conference double header at Utica College March 24.
