Hilbert Women Escape With Come-Back Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Ashley Repine's offensive put-back lifted Hilbert College to a 47-45 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory today over winless Franciscan University this afternoon in women's basketball.

The Barons (0-13, 0-7) led for most of the second half until Katelyn Proy sank both free throws to force a 45-45 tie with thirteen seconds left in the game.

Franciscan's 3-point shot bounced off the left rim on their next possession and the Hawks called a timeout with three-seconds remaining.

Hilbert inbounded the ball by the hash mark on the fan-side of the floor and Emily Gawlak's seven footer dropped short of the rim, but into Ashley Repine's hands.

The 5'10 forward scored just before the buzzer for the come-back win.

Proy and Repine notched double figure points, hitting 14 and 13 respectively.  They each pulled down seven rebounds and earned all eight of Hilbert's blocks.  Proy swatted five and Repine earned game-high honors with four assists.

Franciscan outhustled the Hawks on the offensive glass as the much smaller Barons grabbed 14 offensive rebounds which led to 14 second-chance points.

Hilbert took a 14-2 lead into start of the second quarter but hit the wall the next 20 minutes.

Franciscan rode a 10-4 performance into the break and came out in the third outscoring Hilbert 24-11 to building a seven point lead (36-29) at the start of the fourth.

Slowly Hilbert came back.  Repine and Proy put seven points on the board before Gawlak knocked down all three free throws at 4:25 (42-39).

Taylor Corts went 2-for-2 from the line and Demi Battin hit a short jumper in the paint to cut it to a one-point game with 1:02.

The Hawks had to commit two quick fouls which sent Franciscan to the line.  After hitting the second of two shots, Proy knotted the game at 45-all when she calmly hit both freebies with 13 seconds left.

Hilbert dropped one-game behind La Roche (6-1) in league standing at 5-1, as the Hawks improved to 10-3 on the year.  The women's basketball team returns to action January 9 when they host Pitt-Bradford in a 6pm tip in the Hafner Recreation Center.
