Women's Basketball Picks Up Another AMCC Win

STEUBENVILLE, OH – After building a nice 23-point lead heading into the final quarter, the Hilbert College women's basketball team survived a 23-point fourth quarter scoring spree by Franciscan University and claimed a 63-52 road win.

Shannon Rogers notched another 14 point, 12 rebound performance, keeping her Division III double-double leader status intact.

Katelyn Proy had to come off the bench due to clerical error and added 14 points and 11 rebounds as the inside game of Hilbert continues to lead them to victory.  Samantha Heiler (four assists) and Wyann Jackson (pair of 3-pointers) lit the perimeter up with 10 points each.

The Barons' Sarah Schriner led all scorers with 18 points as the only bench scorer for the hosts today.

Hilbert spotted Franciscan a bucket to start the game and then battled to a 14-7 first quarter lead.  Proy and Rogers dominated the paint and Jackson hit a short jumper to lead the Hawks after 10-minutes of action.

The Barons knocked down a three-pointer to start the second period, cutting the score to 14-10 before the Hawks stretched the score to 39-17 by half time.  Jennifer Colvin connected with a shot beyond the arc pairing it with a set of free throws to start the Hilbert run.

It took two and a half minutes into the third quarter before anyone tickled the twine.  Rogers' layup broke the seal on the rim and open the gates for Hilbert who built a 52-29 lead heading into the final session. Jackson played solid defense and reached from downtown twice after Heiler knocked down her second trey of the day.

The Barons went on multiple runs in the final quarter but they ran out of time for any come-back.  With 10-seconds left in the game, Schriner's long ball cut the difference to 10-points yet Heiler hit one of two at the charity stripe to stretch the difference back to 11.

Hilbert dominated the glass with a 52-22 edge.  Neither team was whistled for excessive fouls as Hilbert's single foul sent the Barons to the foul line for an old fashioned three-point play.

The Hawks have one day to prepare for their AMCC contest against cross-town rival D'Youville College (3-6, 0-3) Monday, December 14.  Hilbert (5-4, 2-1) welcomes the Spartans, losers in a 102-50 game today to La Roche College, for an 8pm tip-off before the holiday break begins.
