WSOC: Wildcats Home Opener Ends in 0-0 Draw.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team tied the Hilbert Hawks on Wednesday evening with a score of 0-0. With the draw, the Wildcats move to 1-1-1 on the season, as Hilbert moves to 0-1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Hilbert Hawks started the game attacking Wildcats keeper Katie Bowers early, forcing her to make six saves in the first half. The Wildcats would get their lone shot on goal in the first half from Callie Wright, which was knocked away by Hilbert's Tahlia Kosek.

The second half proved to be an equal battle of possession between the two teams, ending in the Wildcats possessing the ball 51% of the time, to the Hawks 49% of the time. In the second half, the Hawks would place three shots on goal, compared to none for the Wildcats. The Hawks would end with 21 total shots, with nine being on goal, and the Wildcats would end with eight total shots, with one being on goal.

NOTABLE STATISTICS:

  • Vanessa Van Slyke led the way offensively for the Hawks, taking five shots total, with four of them being on goal.
  • Katie Bowers recorded nine saves en route to her second shutout of the season.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats are back home on Saturday, September 17th for their conference opener against Cazenovia College. The game is set to kick off at 2:30 pm. In last year's matchup, the Wildcats beat Cazenovia 2-1, highlighted by a two-goal game from Meghan Greenway.
