Grace Collins ties to make a play on the ball

Pioneers Make it Three Straight

The Alfred State women's soccer team made it three straight victories on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Elmira. The Pioneers are now 3-1 on the season.

Grace Collins (Rochester/Greece Olympia) opened up the scoring in the 26th minute when she hit a long shot into the back of the net after getting set up in the middle of the field by Madison Kice (Canandensis, PA). Kice made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute when her free kick went from the corner went off the goalkeepers hands into the back of the net.

Rachel Bortnick answered right back when she scored less than a minute later after getting a pass from Adrianna Cornell.

Neither teams could find the back of the net the rest of the way. Elmira outshot the Pioneers 4-1 in the 2nd half but the Pioneer defense in front of Sierra Schofield (Delran, NJ) preserved the lead and victory. Schfield made four saves to earn the victory in net.

The Pioneers open up AMCC play next Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Bradford. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
