Pair of 1st Half Goals Lift Eagles

Elmira scored a pair of goals just under three minutes apart in the 1st half as they defeated Alfred State 2-0 in the season opener for both teams.

Adam Nichols scored in the 22nd minute and Donovan Sewell scored 2:48 seconds later to account for the lone goals of the game. Elmira held a 6-2 shot advantage in the 1st half and both teams were limited to just three shots in the 2nd half.

Giovanni Garufi made two saves in the shutout victory while Nate Moulton (Madrid Waddington) made four saves in his first collegiate action.

The Pioneers are back in action on Sunday when they host Wells in a 2 p.m. contest at Pioneer Stadium.
