Vikings Defeat LaRoche, 89-42

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State shot 59-percent from the floor and had four players in double figures as the Vikings cruised past LaRoche, 89-42, on Monday afternoon in the Wolstein Center.

The Vikings improved to 7-6 this year, while LaRoche fell to 6-4.

It was the fewest points allowed by the Vikings since a 91-40 win over Notre Dame (OH) on Dec. 27, 2008.

The win also moved head coach Gary Waters into sole possession of second place on the all-time wins list at CSU with 143, breaking a tie with Kevin Mackey. Ray Dieringer holds the school record with 149 victories.

Anton Grady paced CSU with 19 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while Trey Lewis finished with 17 points, five assists and four rebounds. Bryn Forbes added 16 points, six rebounds and three assists and Sebastian Douglas added 10 points and five assists.

Marlin Mason recorded seven points and four rebounds.

CSU opened with its fifth different starting lineup of the season, as Waters went with Lee, Forbes and Lewis in the backcourt with Marlin Mason and Grady in the front court.

The lineup paid off right away as the Vikings scored 28 of the first 30 points of the game en route to a 44-15 halftime lead.

The Vikings shot .594 (38-64) from the field and assisted on 26 of the 38 baskets and scored 62 points in the paint. CSU out-rebounded the Redhawks, 40-26.

LaRoche shot .339 (19-56) from the field and was led by Lionel Perkins who scored nine points.

The Vikings are back in action on Saturday (Dec. 28) when CSU travels to Kent State for a 7:00 p.m. game in the final nonconference contest before Horizon League play begins.
