Henby Homers but Pioneers Fall at Salisbury

Jack Henby (Hornell) hit a three-run homer but the Alfred State baseball team fell 12-3 to #13 Salisbury on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers finish their opening weekend with a 2-1 record.

Salisbury got on the board early as they scored four in the 1st, one in the 2nd, and two in the 3rd to gain a 7-0 lead. In the 5th, Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) got the inning started with a single through the left side, TJ Lucey (Fairport) followed with a walk, and after a sac bunt Henby lifted a three-run homer to left center to make it 7-3.

The Seagulls answered right back in the bottom of the 5th with four runs of their own and then added an insurance run in the 7th.

Stephen Rice led the SU 15-hit attack with a 3 for 4 day while Christian Murphy was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI.

The Pioneers were held to just five hits on the day. Henby and Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) collected extra base hits.

The Pioneers head to Ferrum, VA next weekend for another three-game weekend. They take on Brockport on Saturday at Noon and then battle the Eagles Sunday at 11 a.m. and Ferrum at 2:30 p.m.
