BUFFALO, N.Y.  - Hilbert softball opened the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference portion of their schedule with a pair of Buffalo Cup defeats today at D'Youville College.

The Spartans took an 8-0 win in 5 innings before outlasting the Hawks 6-1 in the nightcap. 

After struggling through an opening game no-hitter, Hilbert connected in the second game with 11 hits, but only manufactured one run.

GAME TWO

Maia Delaney went 4 for 4 and scored the Hawks solo run in the top of the 5th.  The sophomore outfielder singled up the middle and made it to second off Victoria Grayson's hit.  Morgan McNeill's double to left field scored Delaney setting a 5-1 score.

The Hawks had two baserunners each inning, except for the 6th, and closed the game with bases loaded in the top of the 7th, but they just couldn't push them home.

Rachel Allen made her first appearance this season, went 1.2 innings and gave up three earned runs.

Melanie Basile closed the game in the circle (three earned runs, 4.1 innings) and went 2 for 3 at the plate.

GAME ONE

D'Youville's ace pitcher tossed a no-hitter and finished the game in five innings.

Alyssa Barnas took a pitch to the body and Victoria Grayson walked, both in the first inning.  Barnas reached off a fielding error in the top of the 3rd but, beyond that, the Hawks went 3 batters deep each inning. 

Marisa McIntyre went four innings, struck out one, walked seven and finished with six earned runs off nine hits.

The Hawks return to the diamond this weekend against La Roche College March 30.  Stay tuned for the site location which will be determined based on the weather conditions.
