ELMIRA, N.Y. – Playing their last set of games in the 2015 season, the Hilbert College baseball team split their double header at Elmira tonight under the lights.  The Hawks, behind Mark Anderson's 7th inning double, earned a 7-4 victory.  The Soaring Eagles then exploded for 14 runs, behind five triples, in the night cap to take a 14-4 win.

Hilbert picked up a few more wins this season as they finished at 8-25 and 4-12 in league play under the guidance of rookie head coach Matt Glowacki.  Elmira (5-28) continues their inaugural season of play with two additional double headers this week.

Ryan Bonafede was perfect with the bat in his hand in the opening game, going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's.  He got the Hawks on the board as the clean-up hitter in the first inning with a double to left center as he pushed Paul Wujek home.  Elmira closed the bottom half with a two-run homer to grab a 2-1 lead.

The Soaring Eagles extended the spread to 4-1 at the bottom of 2nd but the Hawks responded with four runs over the next two innings to regain the lead, 5-4 in the 4th. 

Bonafede and Moore earned the RBIs in the third and Wujek and Bonafede (double) added two more runs.  Anderson closed the game's scoring with his long double to right center and Joshua Maier and Bonafede crossed home for the final 7-4 score.

Winfred Nelson picked up his first win of the season taking care of business for 3.2 innings as he gave up one hit and struck out one.  Justin Hulbert earned the save closing the last 1.1 innings. 

Paul Wujek and Kevin Moore each went 2 for 4 with a single RBI and Wujek and Bonafede were credited with a stolen base.

The second game started well for Hilbert.  Wujek doubled down the left field line forcing Bradley Perrin to third base.  Ryan Bonafede's two-run single gave the two base-runners the light home.  Joshua Maier was hit by a pitch and after Sal Carroccia's single RBI, Maier made it home thanks to Michael Best.

Elmira essentially tripled their way back into the game.  They connected twice in the first inning and matched the Hawks offensive production with a 4-run inning.

The hosts then tacked on five runs off five hits and two errors in the second inning for a 9-4 lead.

Three more Elmira triples lead to four more runs in the third inning and a final run scored in the fourth inning lead to the 14-4 defeat for the Hawks.

Hilbert finished the game with only five hits where Elmira connected for 17 hits.

Matt Goraj took the loss on the mound and, with a six-man pitching crew, the Hawks struck three batters out.

Goraj and Daniel Christmann (second base) closed-out their Hilbert career tonight.
