Pioneers Down Canton to Earn First Win

The Alfred State men's basketball team defeated SUNY Canton 76-73 to earn their first victory of the season and the first win for Head Coach Jack Dignan.

The Pioneers raced out to a 12-3 lead and kept the pressure on and led 41-14 with just over five minutes left in the 1st half. They went into halftime with 43-27 advantage. The Roos kept the pressure on and fought back into the game. They cut the lead to three, 51-48, just under six minutes in the 2nd half and the game remained tight the rest of the way. With the game tied at 62-62, ASC went on a 8-2 run and never trailed again. Canton cut the lead to one multiple times but never could tie it. A defensive stop and a fast break lay-up gave Alfred State a three-point lead and a last-second three-point attempt did not connect for Canton.

Dylan Perry (Kingston, NY/Kingston) led Alfred State with 21 points while Cody Schneider (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley) was 6 for 10 from the field and added 18 points. Ryan Rosa (Middletown, NY/Middletown) recorded a double-double finishing with 10 points and 10 boards.

Quran DuBois led Canton with 26 points, nine boards, and seven steals.

Alfred State is back in action on Tuesday when they host cross-county rival Houghton at 7 p.m.
