Women’s Tennis Falls to Pitt-Greensburg in AMCC Semifinals

WEXFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team was defeated in the semifinal round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament on Saturday at Oxford Athletic Club, as the Lions took a 5-1 loss to Pitt-Greensburg.

Pitt-Greensburg (9-3, 6-0 AMCC), the top seed in the tournament, won two out of three in doubles play to start the match. The Bobcats prevailed in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to work their way out to a one-point lead heading into the singles matches.

Fourth-seeded Penn State Altoona (4-6, 3-3 AMCC) salvaged a point in doubles, as the duo of Stephanie Swain (Yadkin County, NC/Forbush)/Jenna Bartlett (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) earned an 8-3 victory. The win was Swain and Bartlett's team-leading fifth doubles victory of the season together.

But Pitt-Greensburg won the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles slots to end the match, which was played to decision.

At the conclusion of the match, Bartlett was named to the AMCC Women's Tennis All-Tournament team for her performance in the postseason.

With the loss, Penn State Altoona women's tennis will now break for the remainder of the semester. The Lions will return to action for at least a pair of regular season matches during the spring, as the team is currently slated to take on Geneva College on April 2 and Westminster College on April 16.
